ShirthadySampathSamrajya, esteemed members of our Management, Heads and faculty members of all the Institutions in the campus, beloved colleagues, office bearers of the Students Council, office bearers and members of Alumni Association, my dear students, members of Press & Media, ladies and gentlemen. I take this opportunity to present this brief Annual Report of our Polytechnic for the academic year 2015-16.

S.N.Mudbidri Polytechnic, named after great Philanthropist Late S.N.Mudbidri, was established in the year 1984 with a noble intension of providing technical education to the deprived youth to alleviate poverty of this region through socio-economic development. This Polytechnic is managed jointly by S.M.C Trust, Moodbidri and The Academy of General Education, Manipal.

This Polytechnic is affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Bangalore and is one of the reputed Polytechnics in Karnataka. All the Diploma programmes offered here are approved by AICTE, New Delhi.

Our Polytechnic offers three year’s engineering Diploma courses in seven disciplines namely, Automobile, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, and Mechatronics Engineering.  Out of these three courses namely Automobile, E&C and E&E are govt. aided courses and receive salary grants. 



Our Polytechnic was one of the nodal centres for the admissions for I year diploma. The admissions were made as per the guidelines of Karnataka Examination Authority through counseling. Total strength of the Polytechnic for this academic year is 948 which include lateral entry students also.


Staff Strength:          

We have all necessary infrastructures, including trained and experienced faculty members.  At present 31engineering graduates,6 Post graduates, 1 Doctorate, 5 Diploma holders in the cadre of Lecturers, 7 Diploma holders in the cadre of Instructors, 2 Junior Instructors, 1 Mechanic, 1 System Administrator, 1 Librarian and 26 supporting staff altogether 81 permanent staff members are working here. 


Appointments / Resignations:  

On this occasion I would like to welcome Sri Udaya, a post graduate in Mechanical Engg. who has joined our institution during this academic year as Lecturer in the Dept. of Mechatronics Engg. I recognize the services of Smt. Gulabi, S.D.A., and Sri Varun, Lecturer in the Department of Mechatronics Engg, who have left our institution during this academic year.


 Laboratories & Workshops:-

We have well equipped workshops and laboratories in all the departments. All the necessary equipmenthas been procured.  To tune ourselves to the changing technology our laboratories are updated and equipped by providing additional laboratory equipment worth Rs.5,26,985/- during the year under report.  Language laboratory is set up for the use of both staff and students. 



At present we have 24,142 volumes of technical books.  We have purchased text books worth Rs.32,580/- during this academic year. 24 national and international technical journals, several technical and non-technical magazines, Kannada and English newspapers and monthly/ fortnightly magazines are also provided for the use of our staff & students.

Students’ performance in the semester examinations:


a)      In the even semester examinations held during April/ May 2015, out of 878 students appeared for the examinations 146 students passed with Distinction, 308 students passed  in first class, 50  students passed in  second class and 293 students were promoted. The overall percentage is 91.
b)      In the odd semester examinations held during November / December 2015, out of 937 students appeared for the examinations 131 students passed with Distinction, 292 students passed in I Class, 87 students passed in II Class.



Achievements/ activities of staff members:

Sri Harsha, Lecturer in E&C Engg, and Sri. GaneshaAcharya attended meeting at Directorate of Technical Education, Bangalore regarding the online admissions. Sri Ganesh Acharya, was assigned the duties to conduct off line admission of lateral entry students at KPT, Mangalore.

Sri J.J.Pinto, Principal and Sri Gurudas S.P. Lecturer in E&C Engg attended one day intensive Management Development Programme on “Leave Trading System, a Tool to Learn with Fun” held at Justice K.S.Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte on 4th September 2015.

 Principal Sri J.J.Pinto, has attended a short term workshop on “ Quality Initiatives in Technical and Higher Educational Institutions through Accreditation and Assessment ”  held in collaboration with FELIP, Bangalore, from 5th to 7th November 2015 at Govt. Engineering College, Hassan.

A committee for filing NBA application is formed comprising of Sri Gangadhar K B, Sri Kiran Y., and Sri Harsha, Lecturers, Dept. of Automobile, E&E and E&C Enggrespectively.

Sri Dhavalakeerthi, HOD, Dept of E&E Engg, along with NSS officers Sri Ramprasad M., and Sri KumareshwarRathod, attended one day workshop on National Service Scheme at Dept.of Technical Education, Bangalore, on 15th December 2015.

Sri Harsha, Gangadhar K.B., Vishwanath K., SudarshanP.Kini, Kiran Y, Dhavalakeerthi, KumareshwarRathod have undergone trainings on different dates on different topics held at N.I.T.T.T.R. Chennai during this academic year. 

Students’ activities and achievements:-

The Annual Day Celebrations for the year 2014-15 was held on Saturday, the 7thMarch 2015.  Sri Krishna Mohan P.S. was our Chief Guest. Mr.Brij Mohan, Managing Director, Aviosat Technology Pvt.Ltd., New Delhi, represented our Alumni. Sri K. Abhayachandra Jain, Hon’ble Minister for Youth Services & Fisheries, Chaired the celebrations.

Seven students of 6th semester Civil Engg conducted a survey project at Kadalakere on Water Park &Gardening on 26th Sept. 2015.

AyudhaPooja was held in our Polytechnic on 21st October 2015 with grandeur. Department wise Mantap Decoration Competition was held to the students of all branches. Dept of Automobile, Mechanical, and Electronics & Communication secured I, II and III places respectively.

Students of 3rd year Diploma in Automobile Engg accompanied by two faculty members visited various industries at Mysore and Bangalore between 6th to 10th October 2015. Students of 2nd year Automobile engineering visited MRPL on 4th March 2016.

Students of 3rd year Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering visited K.M.F.Mangalore Diary, and All India Radio Station, Mangalore on 22nd January 2016. They also visited Electrical substation at Kadalkere, Moodbidri on 30th January 2016,Varahi Hydro Electric power project on 10th Feb. 2016 andvarious industries at Bangalore between 29th February to 2nd March 2016.

Students of 3rd year Mechatronics Engg visited various industries at Mysore and Bangalore between 4th to 6th February 2016.

Extensive Survey Project:

As per the curriculum, prescribed by the Board of Technical Examinations, the sixth semester students of Diploma in Civil Enggconducted an extensive survey project near Shree Harihareshwara Temple, Durga, Karkala from 5th December to 14th December 2015.  38 students accompanied by four faculty members of the department have successfully conducted the survey camp


Visit of auditing officers:

An audit team from the Office of the Accountant General, Bangalore headed by Sri Ganesan N., A.A.O. visited our Polytechnic for the audit ofGovt aided courseson6th May 2015.  They have verified accounts of our Polytechnic for the financial years from 2009-10 to 2014- 2015. 

Activities of innovation club and other clubs:

With the intention of identifying, encouraging and nurturing talents on innovative thinking and to develop skills to bring these innovative ideas into reality among student community, innovation club was formed in the Polytechnic.  The Activities of the Innovation Club and Other Clubs for the academic year 2015-16 were inaugurated on  9th  September 2015, by Sri Raghunath Manohar (Awardee of U.S. Patent for developing a marking gauge) Deputy Engineer, Advanced Material Testing Laboratory Manipal University, Manipal. 

Technical Project Exhibition &Competition held:

Students of Diploma in E&C Engg participated in the Technical Quiz Competition organized by Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu&Udupi District Engineer’s Association held in connection with engineers’ day celebrations.

Our students participated in the Technical Model Exhibition organized jointly by Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Engineers’ Association and the Institute of Engineers (India), held at Mangalore on 15th September 2015.

The club organised Kaushalyam-2016 a Technical Project Exhibition in our Polytechnic on 27th and 28th January 2016.  More than 100 innovative technical models prepared by our students focused on agriculture, irrigation, Utilization of Alternate Energy Sources, Waste Management and other rural requirements were exhibited. MTX club of Mechatronics Engineering emerged as the most innovative club of the year. Large number of High School students visited the exhibition. Meticulous planning and arrangements were made under the leadership of Dr. S.P.Gurudas, coordinator, innovation club. A detailed article on this was published in ‘Prajavani’ – Kannada news daily on 31st January 2016. I must mention Mr. ShrikanthPai K. Managing Director, ACE Food Products Pvt. Ltd, Mangalore for guiding our students to undertake their project in his firm.

A special event named ‘Present an idea’ was organized for our students on 23rd January 2016, in order to elicit and encourage their critical thinking ability and presentation skills. Our students participated in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts Inter Polyetechnic competition ‘Thaantrika – 16’ organized by P. A. Polytechnic, Mangaluru on 5th March 2016. A project named ‘LPG control system for Restaurants’ presented by Abhishek, Akshay Kumar, Rakesh and Samith of VIthsemE&CEngg bagged the ‘Best Project award in E & C Engineering category and a Project named ‘Automatic Starter’, presented by Santhosh and Akshayof VIthsemE&EEngg bagged the ‘Best Project award in E & E Engineering category

Achievements in Sports & Games:

Our Volley Ball Team participated in the Joint District Level inter polytechnic Volley Ball Tournament held on 23rd January 2016, at N.R.A.M.Polytechnic, Nitte.

Our students participated in the inter campus matches on 3rd Feb. 2016 organized by Sri Mahaveera College, Moodbidri and we bagged RunnersUp title and in the cricket match held on 4th February 2016 our cricket team also secured the Runners Up.

The Annual Sports Meet for the year 2015-16 was held on 5th March 2016.  Sri Mohammed Sharief, proprietor, Land Mark Constructions, and President- Elect, Rotary Club, Moodbidri inaugurated the Sport Meet. 

 I would like to thank Sri Radhakrishna, N.C.C. Officer Sri Mahaveera College, Sri DhananjayaShetty, Principal, and the students of M.K.AnantharajD.P.Ed. for their kind co-operation during the sports meet.  I place on record the services of Mr. Imran Khan A, Lecturer in English, and Mr. Rohith Kumar, Instructor, Dept of Mechanical Engg for shouldering the responsibilities of conduction of all sports activities. 

N.S.S Activities:-

Activities of the N.S.S for the academic year 2015-16, were inaugurated on 3rd September 2015 by Prof. Raveesh Kumar M, Principal, Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri.  Sri PrabhathBalnadu, Lecturer, Jain Pre University College, Moodbidri was the Chief Guest.  Regular activities of N.S.S were held in the premises. 

The annual special camp of both N.SS.units of S.N.Mudbidri Polytechnic was held at the premises of ZillaPanchayat Higher Primary School, Aarambodi, BelthangadyTaluk from 4th to 10th December 2015.  Sri K.R. Pandith, Advocate, and Member of Governing Council of S.N.M.Polytechnic inaugurated the Special Camp on 4th December 2015.  The valedictory function of N.S.S. Special camp was held on 10thDecember 2015.  Dr. YogishKairody, Lecturer, Alva’s College, Moodbidri delivered the valedictory speech.

 Blood donation camp

The N.S.S.Units and Youth Red Cross Unit of our polytechnic in association with Blood Bank, K.M.C. Mangalore, Indian Red Cross Society, Moodbidri and Rotary Club of Moodbidri, organized a Blood Donation Camp in our Polytechnic on 29th September 2015,  About 210 units of blood was collected from the donor staff and students.  Sri Mohammed Isaac, Tahsildar, Moodbidri, Sri RajendraPai, Vice-President, Indian Red Cross Society, Moodbidri branch, Rtn. P. K. Thomas, President of Rotary Club of Moodbidri, Rtn. Govindan P., and Rtn.AbulalPuttige  were present during this camp.

Rashtriyayuvasaptaha 2015-16

On the occasion of Vivekananda Jayanthi the N.S.S. units of S.N.M.Polytechnic organized “National Youth Week (RaasthreeyaYuvaSapathaaha)”in our Polytechnic. Dr. Gurudas S.P., Lecturer in E&C Engg, delivered a lecture highlighting the significance.

Trekking by N.S.S units

The annual trekking by N.S.S. Units of our polytechnic was held on Sunday, the 6th March 2016, to Tadiyandamol, second highest peak of Karnataka  nearMadikeri. 60 NSS Volunteers accompanied by 4 faculty members participated.

Seminars and Conferences held:-

A one day seminar on “Industrial Automation, PLC and SCADA” was held by M/s Technologics, Bangalore in our Polytechnic on 13th February 2016. The Students of Automobile, Mechatronics, E&C and Mechanical Enggattended the seminar. Mr.MohammedSaleemJaveed, Project Engineer was the resource person.

A one day workshop on OBE and NBA was held in our Polytechnic to all the faculty members of our Polytechnic on Saturday, the 12th March 2016. Mr. VenkateshBabu, Sl. Gr. Lecturer, Govt. Polytechnic, Ramamnagar, was the Resource person.

Naional Festivals held in the Campus:

Independence Day, Republic Day, teachers’ day celebrations were held in the campus. All our staff members and students attended the celebrations.

 Free Midday Meal Facility:

·      The Taluk Social Welfare Officer, Mangalore has sanctioned Govt of India Post Matric Scholarship of Rs 53,470/- towards the scholars belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe.

·         During this academic year 280 students of our Polytechnic have applied to the Department of Backward Communities, Govt of Karnataka, for the financial assistance for the food & accommodation, fees concession under the “VidyaSiriYojana” Scholarship Scheme of Govt of Karnataka. 

·            About 196 students have submitted applications to the Labour Welfare Organisaton, Bangalore through our Polytechnic for the sanction of Beedi Scholarships for this academic year.

Placement assistance through Campus selection/ interviews:

Campus recruitment drives are held for the employment of students of this Polytechnic regularly.

A campus interview was held by M/s Cadence AMS Design India Private Limited, for the students of E&E, E&C, and Mechatronics Engg at Vivekananda Polytechnic, Puttur on 9th January 2016. 

M/S Pride Group, Hyderabad conducted pooled campus interview for the students of Automobile Engg at Karnataka Polytechnic, Mangalore, on 23rd and 24th of January 2016. M/s Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd. had conducted pooled campus interview for the students of Automobile & Mechanical Engg at Dr. T.M.A. Pai Polytechnic, Manipalon 29th and 30th of January 2016. 

A campus interview was held in our Polytechnic, on 11th February 2016 by M/s Arvind Motors, Mangalore for the students of Mechanical, Automobile, E&E, and Mechatronics Engg. More than 245 students from 7 Polytechnics attended the interview. 118 students were selected for appointment. 

M/sAditya Birla Retail Limited had conducted campus placement drive for 2016 batch under their Retail Management Programme (RMP) at Alva's Institute of Engineering & Technology, Mijar, on 24th February 2016.

Wipro conducted campus recruitment at Dr. T.M.A Pai Polytechnic, Manipal, on 25th February 2016. 

M/s TAFE has conducted a pooled campus interview in our Polytechnic, on 4th March 2016. 168 Students of Mechanical, Automobile and Mechatronics Engg from 10 polytechnics had participated in the event.

M/s AOSmith India Water Products Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru conducted campus interview at SDM Polytechnic Ujire, on 10th March 2016 for the students of E&E and Mechanical Engg.

M/s Regen Power Tech conducted apooled campus interview in our Polytechnic for Electrical and Electronics Engg Students on 15th March 2016.Totally 35 Students from NRAMPolytechnic,Nitte, SNS Poytechnic,Bajpe, and SNM Polytechnic attended the interview.

M/S Mando Brakes, a subsidiary of Anand Group, Chennai conducted a pooled campus interview in our Polytechnic on 16th March 2016

The Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd., (MESCOM) Mangalore have selected this Polytechnic as an Examination Centre to conduct the “MESCOM Recruitment Tests” to be held on 2nd and 3rd April 2016.

There are a few more industries in the pipeline for the recruitment events which will be held shortly.

Maintenance of discipline: -

Utmost precautions have been taken for the maintenance of discipline in this institution.  As per the direction of Govt. of Karnataka we have formed various Committees for the maintenance of discipline in the institution.


·      Anti-sexual Harassment Committee is formed to protect women against sexual abuse or any such menaces in the campus.

·      Anti- Ragging Committee is formed to curb ragging in the campus. Every student is made to give an undertaking in this regard.

·      Committee on Women’s Security, Welfare and Grievance Redressal to proactively take up women’s issues to ensure safe and secure women friendly atmosphere in the institution.

·      Dress Code committee is formed in the Polytechnic to oversee the dress code issues.

·      Internal Quality Assurance Cell is constituted in the Polytechnic to ensure continuous improvement in Academic, Administrative and financial aspects of the Polytechnic. Representatives of Management, Alumni, senior academicians, faculty and students are included in the committee.

·      SC/ST grievances committee is formed to address the grievances of SC/ST students.

·      Internal complaints committee is formed to address the grievances of students and staff of the Polytechnic.


College Cafeteria:

A cafeteria is set up in the Campus. A Committee comprising of staff members and student representatives is formed to monitor and take appropriate actions to provide quality, hygienic food and beverages at nominal price. 

Clean Campus Campaign:

To address the cleanliness issues in the campus and outside the campus we have organized “clean campus drive” from the last academic year. Every student and staffis engagedfor minimum of one hour per week, Monday to Saturday in this drive. Thanks to the Town Municipality for the disposal of collected waste. This drive is initiated with a noble intension of forming a habit among students rather than a mere custom. I appreciate all the students and staff for actively engaging themselves to keep our surroundings clean.

S.N.M.P Alumni Association:

 Most of our old students are well settled.  These old students mirror our Polytechnic at the world of work. These students have formed an alumni association which is very active.  Mr.ThekkatteSudhindra is also an active member of this Alumni Association. Staff Vs Old students and Old students Vs present students cricket matches were organisedby Alumni Association on 8th March 2016. High Tea was arranged for all the teaching and non-teaching staff members by our Alumni. I thank all the old students for attending in large numbers.


I thank the officials of AICTE, New Delhi, for extending their approval for the year 2015-16.  I thank Sri H.U.Talwar, Director of Technical EducationBangalore for the admission approval and for extending the affiliation to our institution, and I also thank Sri R.Manjunath, Secretary, for extending his support in the smooth functioning of academic activities. I thank Dr.GuruprasadM.Hoogar,Programme Co-ordinator, National Service Scheme, D.T.E.,Bangalore for his guidance for conducting the N.S.S.regular activities and for conducting the  NSS annual special camp. I thank the Director and faculty of N.I.T.T.T.R. Chennai, for conducting various training programmes to our staff during this academic year. I would like to thank all the donors for sponsoring the scholarships/ proficiency awards/education loans, cash prizes to our students.  On behalf of all the beneficiaries of free mid-day meals I thank all the donors of midday meal fund, for extending their support towards this noble cause. I thank the Officials of various industries for opting to conduct campus interviews in our Polytechnic.

Before I conclude it is my ardent duty to thank my TEAM SNMP for providingconducive atmosphere for teaching/ learning at this Polytechnic.  Every staff member both teaching &non-teaching, have walked along with me towards our destination of making this Polytechnic most sought after in this region, I will be failing in my duty if I do not mention the names of my colleagues who have shouldered important responsibilities in the smooth functioning of our day-to-day activities.
